like i just want to know how the hell i should tag my stuff in general

sometimes i omit tags on purpose like with the last one (probably a bad idea)

in the case of the dd thumbnails i just didnt feel like tagging cassandra and spooky month due to the thumbnail being nikki

i feel like this is fine

I normally just put whatever on there, whatever stupidity I find funny at the time.

Not tagging your art is a terrible idea. When a Newgrounds user is a non-scouted artist, the only way one can find their art is via searching by tag(s)! And you never know if you're gonna stay scouted forever. When you're de-scouted and your art isn't tagged, any chance of people discovering you on NG without any auxiliary advertising is pretty much eliminated.

I recommend a mix of specific, general, and vague terms. That assortment will cover the types of searches people are doing:

-Searches for a particular character or things from a specific piece of media.

-Searches for a general theme (i.e. "witches," "robots," etc.) that don't need to be from anything in particular.

-Searches for a vague vibe ("cute," "retro," "scary," etc.)

Best to be accurate, though. You'll get clicks if you mislabel something with popular terms, but that attracts bad attention, not good. Also, usually you don't have to use repetitive tags like "marx, kirby, kirby_marx." The only time I use repetitive tags is if it could be one or two words when people search for it (like pico_day and picoday).

all i can think of for something tagged really broadly is the theme to sakasama mood is that what i should be going for

now that i think about it maybe i tagged the marx card w marx-kirby because of "kirby fan or deluded communist" maybe i should remove it

i realized the spellings of cassandra and casandra doesnt really matter because i checked casandra and it had soul calibur art in it

also right

  • should i be tagging things not included in the art portal do they even show up in searches
  • what if its like a recognizable background object like theres a maimai and chunithm cabinet in this

Yes and yes.

Yes, if you want other fans to find your art.

Do you have analytics anywhere else where you can see search terms?

I usually tag with the medium, the program used, any fictional properties referenced in the piece, and the names of any fictional or real people/characters in the piece.
